We had a great day today and celebrated the holiday with our family. We also acknowledged that our nephew Shane and his longtime girlfriend Maggie just got married a few weeks ago. They are such a comfortable fit. They seem to have been made for each other.
We sent Bill, Lauren, Landen, and Brielle on their way to New Jersey. They are moving there for work and will be way too far away for all of us. It will be tough not having them around but we want them to be happy and understand that we all set off on our own at some point and tried to form lives for ourselves and families. Their journey is just beginning and we wish them well.
All the grandkids and great grandkids were there for Miss Jessie and it was a perfect holiday. Randy and Charlotte are great hosts as are all our family and we always have a great time whenever we get together.
Shawn and Kim are in San Jose so of course we missed them. I sent Gobble Gobble text messages to all my siblings and know many of them got together up north. I miss them and will be up in February to visit them.
What a perfect holiday. Truly so many reasons to be thankful.
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
I am thankful that my family is alive and well. I am thankful that even if I can never get to an orlando vacation rental, that I still have the love of my family. I am thankful that I was able to buy us the 360 that I wanted to get. I am thankful that my husband has an opportunity to become whatever it is his heart desires. Thank You Jesus!
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all and gratitude to my peeps.
On this day of plenty, please take pause to remember the many who do without - without jobs, without homes, with little clothing and one pair of shoes, without food on their tables.
Be mindful too of the millions of turkeys whose lives were taken for your feast. Bless the birds and all living creatures this day.
Alls I gots to bring to Thanksgiving are pumpkin bread and cranberry sauce and they're just now done - so I have some time to loaf around till we hit the trough at three. Wanted to say you guys are the best and thank you for being my hoodies!
This seemed appropriate to the occasion. It's awesome regardless.
My apologies to whichever of you peeps posted this on Faceboob recently - I can't for the life of me remember who it was cuz I'm brain-decrepit like that.
I'm not sure I'll get to making all of it, but I am set for the following menu for Thanksgiving.
There are a couple of extra chairs at the table if you're interested!
Now I'd better get prepping because so far all I've made is the cranberry sauce.
Thanksgiving 2009
Deviled eggs
Variety of cheeses with French bread
Corn Lemongrass Soup with crab and mussels
Arugula Fennel Mint Prosciutto Pomegranate Salad
Turkey – brined and deep fried
Cranberry sauce – with ginger and Cointreau
Traditional Stuffing with pancetta
Mashed new potatoes with skins on, and mascarpone and chives
Gravy -
Pearl onions roasted with a port reduction and bay
Green beans sauteed with wildrice, mushrooms, bell peppers and pinenuts
Crème Brule
Pumpkin pie with whipped creme
There's much to be grateful for and I try to remind myself of that every day.
Some days I forget.
But I'm glad there's one day of the year when we in the United States are invited to take stock of the abundance in our lives. I hope each of you are with people who are grateful for YOU this year and who express it.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Dizang asked Fayan, "Where are you going?"
Fayan said, "Around on pilgrimage."
Dizang said, "What is the purpose of pilgrimage?"
Fayan said, "I don't know."
Dizang said, "Not knowing is most intimate."
The Book of Serenity, Case 20
This kind of intimacy is real intimacy. No gap. No
ideas about who this is or what that is. Just being one, right here, right now, complete, whole, undivided. Just this.
This intimacy is the heart of Zen practice.
Who knew Coolio had a cooking show? On the web, but still...
This video is in pretty poor taste, but it's funny and it is hands down the best way to make a delicious turkey.
Here's our bird from last year coming out of the fryer. Yum! Last year I made two turkeys, a roasted one and a fried one. The roasted one was great, but this year, there's only one way the bird is getting cooked. Coolio style.
