hope all is going well. I do like the 99 cent beer night down there. I think my two brothers and I spent over $100 on beer one night like that... LOL

"So broccoli... Mother says you're good for me.

Well I'm no good for YOU!"

(One of my all-time favorite Stewie lines!)

Happy trails and thanks for the heads-up about San Antonio. We'll just head to Austin if we ever actually go anywhere. Ever. Again.

Enjoy the side of your sister's face as soon as you get to see her!
... the etsy thing... pottery?

I'll tell you, I tried to see San Antonio (coming from Austin). The highway traffic was so thick, I said "screw it" with exasperation, turned around and headed back north.

Agreed to #1. Not simply overrated, it was kinda gross for me....
#4 - Yay you! Jamie has the paypal account in a holding pattern just waiting.

We miss you, too! Hurry hurry!

I got BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS!!!!

Wow - that's one hell of a travel schedule. I have no room to complain about mine!

Be safe!

I've lived in San Antonio since 1997. I can tell you that, as far as Mexican food is concerned, the places on the Riverwalk are there for tourists, and compared to real Mexican food, they're crap. You have to look for the right places. You know, the "holes in the wall" with tiny caliche parking lots full of potholes, and abuelitas ("little grandmothers") cooking in the back. Often a small bakery is attached. That is some of the BEST Mexican food you will ever have.

Now for the Riverwalk itself. Yeah, it can be kind of a disappointment at certain times of year, or times of day, depending on what you're looking for. At Christmas, it is absolutely smashing, especially at night. In January, they hold the Mud Festival, complete with King and Queen, both of whom are ceremonially dumped into the empty riverbed (which has been drained for its annual cleaning and maintenance.) In April, Fiesta starts, and the whole city goes mad for 10 days. There are lights, cascarones, food galore, and ... the Flambeau Parade. It's basically the same as a regular parade, only on the water, with tons and tons and TONS of lights. It's gorgeous.

One of my favorite things to do is go to the Riverwalk in the afternoon and sit in the central courtyard sipping a nice cold drink and listening to the live South American band that plays there almost every night. I also like to watch the boatloads of tourists come around the bend, gawking and snapping pictures. I rode one of those boats once (it's quite informative and fun), and as we entered the bend in the central courtyard, there was a group of high school kids all dressed in black standing on top of the ... thingy with stairs, dunno what it's called, the one right in the middle of the water that the boat goes around. There were about 20-30 of them, all dancing and jumping to the live music. It was so joyous and unexpected, I had to take some video. When the song ended, they all laughed and cheered and hugged each other, then headed into the mall to eat (I guess, after all that exertion).

Sending you good thoughts, hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly.

Don't give up on us yet :)

back off the Twittering some and come back to Voxing baby!
You know, it's funny, Twitter is SOOOO much better for when you're on the run. You can release random bits. I wonder if it isn't spoiling my need to post.
Karen and I were talking about this the other day, how Twitter (and FB status updates) lets out the little steam vents throughout the day or the week and then there becomes less need or desire to pull things together into a post.

I believe I write less in Vox because of how much random mind farts I find myself posting to Twitter or FB. In my case, it's trading short 'whatever' nonsense for longer 'whatever' nonsense, but in your case, I fear we may be missing wonderful, insightful, pieces of writing and wisdom when Twitter siphons your content away from here. Long way of saying, I miss your Vox posts! Damn near every one of them stop me in my tracks and make me want to kidnap you and make you move to CA to be closer!

BTW: I can't entirely blame Twitter or Facebook for my lack of posting. As you know, I'm rather protective of the delicious things cooking in my life right now. And it's so much easier to write sad love poems than happy ones. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Sweet LORD do I know what you're talking about there. I notice when I'm happy...I mean...deliciously happy? I have not a need to tell a soul. It is like a sweet yummy secret, only for you (and whoever else is directly involved) to share. Stay protective, Dearheart. That's a joy that is yours to nurture and enjoy. I know when I find myself in that sort of contentment, I won't be saying a thing about it either. Cheers...*and hugs* to you.

Hey! That's my hometown you're talking about!

When are you coming back? Where are you staying? Perhaps it would be best if a local made some restaurant recommendations . . .

Ahhh dang it Sooz!

I wish I knew that before I went. I'm back in Austin, ramping up for this week's trip to DC. Didn't mean to dis your hometown my friend.
Well, you let me know when you're headed this way again . . .
