It's all about Empty Bowls...
The Empty Bowls Project is a national series of charitable events designed to address the issue of hunger (so bizarre that that would be an issue, especially in a country as able as ours) by supporting local food banks in the participating cities. It's a great way from those who love art, pottery or...bowls...to come together and buy some amazing pieces from some really awesome local potters AND demonstrate a commitment to support your local food bank.
The concept is simple, you attend your local Empty Bowls event, make a charitable donation by purchasing a bowl, and have that bowl filled with yummy soup. Proceed to the yummy soup feasting area, and enjoy some music. When you're done? We'll wrap that bowl up for you and send you on your way.
I'm sure it's done with a different twist depending on your area, but if you happen to be in Austin on Sunday, November 18th, be sure to visit us at Clayways. If you're not in Austin, keep your eyes out for your local Empty Bowl event. This will be my first year, but I'm looking forward to it becoming a habit. Let me know if you're dropping by, so that I may hug you and direct you to some soup.
That is, of course...if you don't mind being hugged. If you mind the hugs, I'll just point and grin.

Did you make any bowls for this or just volunteering? I go to the one in Tempe (AZ) every year and have had to limit my purchases to 10 bowls annually. I could easily walk off with more.
Here's my routine. The tables are in a big circle, with all the volunteers in the middle restocking as bowls get picked up. I ask for a box, which is happily handed over. Then I make one slow circle, picking up bowls as I go. Then I find a comfy place to sit and I take them out and weed them down to 10. I put the ones not making the cut back. Then I do another slow lap to see what else has been put out since my first lap.
I do the sort again and then pay up, enjoy my soup and think about which ones I might keep for myself and which ones I'll give away. They are great to have around for gifts.
Good for you for helping out! I will give you a virtual hug since I won't be there to enjoy buying bowls in Austin!
((((RPM))))
I did two bowls, but I have no idea where they are. I'm hoping they've already been put on the EB shelves (which I suspect may be the case). I'm also volunteering on Saturday (massive studio clean up) and Sunday (greeting, roaming, assisting shoppers, etc) and I cannot wait. This is my first year participating and I hope to make this a yearly habit.
