What books did you love as a child?
Submitted by hearts.
I read anything I could get my hands on. Just a few of the favorites that stand out over time for me...
Man oh man. Did I love this book. I loved it so much it was a favorite of mine to read to my younger brother and sister as well. In fact, I'm sure they recall it and would laugh at some of the voices we put on to make the characters come to life.
Liza was smart, full of wit and an absolute sweetheart. I know as a child I wanted her courage. The imagery in the book was stellar as well.
This book will eternally remind me of my days in Catholic School. Sister Kathy read this book to us in fifth grade, over the course of a semester. Mildred D. Taylor was one of my favorite childhood authors, and one of the very reasons I aspired to become a writer. She brought characters to life in a way that still astounds me. I can remember feeling as if each of the characters was not only alive, but someone I knew intimately. I must;ve read the books in this series a hundred times or more.
Oh I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys stories. What an escape and what a way to sharpen your fact finding, logic and intuitive skills. Loads of fun and time were spent with those.
These books came to me at such a critical point in my life. I didn't like my reality much, so the idea of travelling through space and time by way of a magical wardrobe was the perfect hideout for me. Those books still hold a special place in my heart because they taught me to dream and to embrace the notion of an ever drifting "what if."
Amazing book, amazing story. Thinking about my initial "physical" reaction to remembering this book, makes me want to read it again.

Even though now I am not a big reader, (i can't seem focus long enough to train my eyes to carry a return to the next line), my mom used to read to me every night. THe hardy boys, Nancy drew and the Secret Garden will all on that sacred rotation of books that would help a rather restless child calm down just long enough to let his mind ease into another world before letting sleep take over.
I LOVED those books, and like you, the memories of the adventures I would have in my head along side the main characters makes me want to hear all those stories again.
I was a huge fan of the Little House on the Prairie series....
Sometimes I still feel like Laura Ingalls
