T-minus 23 and countin'

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning to head back home to Philly for another Christmas. I haven't been home since May of this year, the longest I have ever been away from my family.

While I am eager to see my folks, I also experience some dread. The more things change, the more many things stay the same. And, I have to leave Mecca behind, to spend Christmas with the petsitter as Mom has a dog that Mecca didn't "take" to during our last attempt to bring them together.

I've got much to do today. Instructions for the petsitter, last minute laundry, housecleaning (I love to come home to a spotless place), errand runnin, and then pre-Christmas with some friends tonight. I travel all the time, but for some reason, this time feels different.

Tomorrow...I head to cooler climates, and cooler dispositions.

I'll be around.

the weather up here hasn't been overly cool of late. it's been downright warm, especially for December. I wouldn't anticipate a white christmas or anything. ;~)

Jamie, it really really is. Like trying to fit your foot in as shoe you wore in third grade.

When I went back home during the summer, after only a year, it was so strange. It's just like seeing an old friend you haven't seen for 10-20 years and expecting that he still be the same.

Happy holidays anyway. Have fun :)

All of my family still lives in the same city and in a way, are all still the same. I'm the only family member that has ever moved away and so I think it is hard to go home because they expect me to fit right in to the lifestyle they've created/maintained and I don't. (I'm also the only family member with my own family.) I like the analogy of trying to fit your foot in a shoe you wore in third grade. That's perfect. Makes me think of measuring my kids on the wall, too. At least it can serve as a measurement of growth.
